We’re back on the River Thames!

The winter months are quiet for the river education programmes but there’s been a flurry of activity in the past weeks as we gear up for the return of school on the Thames groups . Our interactive river learning days always start with a whirl of excitement as the children arrive and see Thames Venturer, their Teddington boat base for the day’s activities. The class are introduced to the team and get a quick safety briefing before activities begin. As small groups rotate around the different activity stations on and off the boat, the education team and the visiting chaperones make sure that each child gets hands-on with the experiments as they test how clean the river water is and how geology is responsible for the formation of rivers. Children also learn how Teddington Weir and Lock work and particularly lucky groups see real boats travelling through the lock. Lastly, groups consider how river pollution affects wildlife as we assess the design of everyday products. The practical experience-focused activities bring the curriculum to life for all types of learners so it’s no surprise that sessions regularly end with cries of “best school day ever!” from the children, and most of our clients return every year. Don’t let your school group miss out on this fantastic learning experience. Contact info@thamesboatproject.org to book a session in the spring or summer term.
