Therapeutic Cruises

River Thames Boat Project offers full-day and half-day therapeutic river cruises on the Thames for those who have little access to the river due to health, disability, isolation or social exclusion.

Our cruises provide a safe and caring environment, enabling a tranquil river journey which is unlike any commercial cruise. Being on our boats gives clients a sense of freedom, companionship, and a much-needed change of scene. Our trained volunteer crew offer attentive hosting throughout the trips. Our cruises operate from Teddington or Kingston, onboard Thames Discoverer, a purpose-built, fully accessible boat.

Time on the river is relaxing, calming and improves mental and physical health and well-being. As well as the inspiring river setting and the experience of being on a boat, it is the commitment and the warm, inclusive approach of the volunteers that makes time onboard so special. Our clients tell us how much they benefit from being on our boats and how our cruises bring people together and reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness. After a day with us they feel more positive and confident. Many say they feel like they have been on holiday.

Cruises are for small groups, maximum 12 passengers (including carers or companions). Should your group require a shorter cruising day, we can offer half-days depending on availability.

Linking People Afloat (LPA) cruises are day riverboat cruises for individuals, often isolated or not supported by a group, to come by themselves or with a carer or companion, and include a sociable lunch in the saloon. Most of our LPA cruises depart from Tamesis Club in Teddington. Remaining LPA cruises for 2026 are as follows:

  • Friday 18th September
  • Monday 5th October

It’s also possible for anyone to hire our Thames riverboats for a full or half-day cruise (which will be operated by our volunteer crew), helping us to earn much-needed funds to support our vital work.
