Sunday 15th September 2019 – Richmond Running Festival – half and full marathons
It was a very hot and sunny day and we ran a busy water station to raise money for the Boat Project. We enjoyed being in the sunshine and being there for the runners who were having a thirsty run. Thank you to everyone who volunteered.
Wednesday 18th September 2019 – Volunteers’ Forum
We held a well attended meeting at Elleray Hall in Teddington. Thank you to everyone who attended and for the supportive ideas for the charity that were shared.
Sunday 29th September 2019 – River Thames Boat Project Thames Bridge Walking Challenge
This was our 2nd big fundraising event for our 30 years’ celebrations and we walked 13.4 miles along the river from Putney Bridge to Kingston Bridge. In total we were a group of 29 walkers although different people joined us at different stages. Our youngest walker was 8 and our “most senior” over 80! We finished our walk onboard Thames Discoverer at the dock in Kingston with tea and lots of cakes and the usual warm RTBP welcome. Thank you for all the sponsorship and words of encouragement. This is a huge help for our fundraising. There’s still time to make a donation https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/PippaandKatesWalkingChallenge
Sunday 6th October – Kingston Half Marathon
We ran a water station to raise money for the Boat Project. It was a busy event and the rain the night before had created quite a few puddles for the runners to dodge. Our fantastic team of volunteers handed out water to the thirsty runners at the water station by our boats at the Barge Dock at the end of Canbury Gardens. We went and helped at the finish too where the runners were very pleased to see us with more water.
Wednesday 9th October and Thursday 10th October 2019 – Linking People Afloat Cruises
These special day cruises are for individuals who are not supported by a group, to come by themselves or with a carer or companion. It’s a safe and caring environment with just 12 passengers and a chance to meet new people and share experiences. The day runs from 10am to 4.30pm, is £36 per person and includes a social lunch in the saloon, and tea, coffee and biscuits. Both days were enjoyed by everyone onboard. It’s a relaxing and restorative day on the water. The River Thames Boat Project crew provide a warm welcome onboard and lots of information and interesting knowledge about the river and sites along the way.
Sunday 13th October 2019 – The Cabbage Patch 10 mile run
Start and finish in Twickenham. This was a new event for our fundraising water station calendar. We had the usual fantastic team of Boat Project volunteers who come out early on a Sunday morning. Thank you everyone. It was another busy event with about 1,600 runners and it stayed dry which was great. We had time afterwards for a bacon roll onboard Thames Venturer which was very welcome after an early start. Thank you to Peter and Jennie from KBC Events who organise these running events. They are very happy for us to run the water stations and they make a donation to the Boat Project which is much appreciated for our fundraising.
