2020 Events

We had a very busy 2019, celebrating 30 years of the River Thames Boat Project.  Thank you to everyone that supported us at our events and helped to raise much needed funds.
We had to put our events on hold in March due to the COVID-19 situation and government restrictions.  The diary is looking a little different for the next few months. We are finding different ways to stay connected and to raise funds for the River Thames Boat Project.  Thank you to everyone who is supporting us through this difficult time.
Here’s what we managed to do in the first 3 months of the year.  There will be more for the autumn!

Friday 10th January 2020 – New Year short cruise for Friends, volunteers and supporters

The first cruise of 2020 was a clear and sunny afternoon with beautiful colours in the sky.  It was chilly but everyone still enjoyed being out on the bow deck of Thames Discoverer enjoying time on the riverThe usual warm RTBP welcome with tea, coffee and cakes was enjoyed.  We have another date in February and will plan some further dates soon.

Friday 31st January 2020 – RTBP Quiz Night

We held the first RTBP Quiz Night on the last day of January.  It was cold and rainy outside on Brexit night, but everyone was happy at our quiz!  We had 10 fantastic quiz teams, with a total of 77 people. They tackled 7 rounds of questions and 4 table rounds. We had a round called Ebb and Flow full of river and RTBP questions.  Peter O was a great quiz master and Pippa was in charge of the numbers, as usual, keeping track of the scores.  The bar and raffle were very busy!  We had a break at half time for fish and chips.  The winning team from Holly Lodge will enjoy their prize of an evening cruise on Thames Discoverer later in the year.  Thank you to St Francis de Sales Church for their great venue of the church hall. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped raise a fantastic total of £1,288 for the Boat Project.

Tuesday 11th February 2020 – “Sweet Thames” Film Night

A film, tea, cakes and the good company of Friends, volunteers and supporters made for a very enjoyable evening on board Thames Venturer.  Thank you to Anna Benson Gyles, who produced the film and gave us an introduction on the evening.  Anna is a member of the River Thames Society and her film was a wonderful journey down the Thames from source to sea, full of beautiful images, history, poems and river anecdotes.  Thank you to Anna for sharing this with us and to everyone that came along to enjoy the evening.

Sunday 23rd February 2020  – The Hampton Court Half Marathon

This was our first water station action of the year and it was a windy day with challenging weather for the runners!  We were in our usual spot by the Barge Dock at the end of Canbury Gardens manning 2 water stations to keep the nearly 6000 runners well hydrated.  We had a fantastic runner Phil taking part in the Half Marathon and raising funds for the Boat Project.  Thank you Phil! It’s a very busy event, everyone worked hard and definitely earned their brunch on the boat afterwards.  Thank you everyone!

Wednesday 26th February – Spring Watch short cruise for Friends, volunteers and supporters

Our 2nd afternoon cruise of the year for Friends, volunteers and supporters.  The January one was very popular and our short cruises run from 2-5pm with tea, coffee, cakes and the usual warm RTBP welcome.  We will keep you posted re any further dates.
